Abstract

University cultural heritage becomes an emerging and necessary field in heritage studies at an international and national level. Therefore, the preservation and dissemination of the historical and cultural memory treasured by Cuban universities constitutes an imperative for higher education and current Cuban society. From this perspective, the objective is to carry out a theoretical review of the main concepts related to cultural heritage and university cultural heritage. The main trends and concepts on the research object are addressed and a theoretical review of its evolution and development is presented. The dialectical-materialist method served as a starting point for the use of other theoretical methods such as historical-logical and documentary analysis. The participant observation allowed to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of the actions developed. The systematization to discover and organize the internal logic of the process and the survey to determine the level of knowledge about the theoretical references that regulate the process, the organizational forms and the indicators to be used to evaluate its management. The management of the university extension was analyzed, as well as its link with the university cultural heritage. The main result is a systematization and a conceptual review of the University Cultural Heritage, which allowed determining the background and trends followed in its evolution and development. The study of the cultural heritage of the University of Pinar del Río is contextualized, based on its main characteristics and the current challenges for its management are taken into account.
