Abstract

A comprehensive education process is based on information, knowledge, changes, transformations, and actions aimed at elevating the teaching-educational process. It requires methods and creativity to meet the challenges of educating new generations. The Third Improvement of the Cuban Education System, coupled with the demands of society, requires professionals prepared to implement changes, improve the educational reality, and promote vocational training for students with intellectual disabilities. A theoretical analysis of vocational training and its influence on the care of students with intellectual disabilities allows for the adoption of positions that correspond to the current demands of society and families, along with the professional performance of teachers, which requires constant updating of their skills. This article provides a theoretical analysis that allows for the adoption of positions on professional performance, vocational training, and intellectual disabilities that correspond to the needs of the social environment. To fulfill the above, the objective is to develop a development strategy that fosters the professional performance of teachers working with students with intellectual disabilities. It presents essential concepts and ideas for contextualizing the teaching-learning process and offers teachers cognitive, procedural, and attitudinal tools to establish professional training benchmarks in the context in which they operate. It responds to the Socio-Educational Inclusion project of the Central Institute of Pedagogical Sciences and is part of the author's doctoral thesis.
